Assignment # 1 Intro to FCST342 and YOU

Hi Everyone!

My name is Heather Vorona.  I am 39 years old - married to my high school sweetheart (together 25 years) and we have 2 girls - Madison (8) and Brooke (6).  I am a huge coffee fan, yes, they know me at my local Starbucks  and D&D. I recently decided to go back to school to pursue another degree, I work at a preschool and also at a summer day camp as a nature specialist and specialist director.

What is the funniest thing that ever happened to you or what about you makes you interesting?
I think that being a creative person and a huge kid at heart makes me interesting.  I laugh at my own jokes.

Please tell us are you an FCST major or not. If you are not a major, tell us about your own major and why you chose it. What are your current career plans? Or tell us if you plan to marry rich or travel the world!
I am a FCST (K-5) major and will be applying for a dual cert. in Special Education.  I do work with children and special ed children both in school and camp settings.  I am in the process of developing an outdoor classroom/teaching garden at a local preschool.  My career goal is to be a teacher.  I have traveled the world but now it is back to reality.

Tell us about your family - for example - are your parents married or not, do you live with them, do you have siblings, pets etc? What is the an activity you like to share with your family? etc.
My parents both passed away from cancer when I was in my early, early 20's.  They were divorced since I was about 8 years old.  Even at that young age, I understood that they were not meant to be together.  I have a younger brother who is just awesome and gave me 3 beautiful nieces.  Along with my husband and 2 girls, I have a 10 year old golden retriever, Aspen, and the coolest and fattest guinea pig named Meeka.  As a family we love to travel especially to Aruba and love biking - when it is not hot out, naturally.
Please also write about 1 or 2 topics on the syllabus that interest you and WHY.
Topics from the syllabus that I find to be extremely interesting are Assignment 2 Family Demographics because it is interesting to learn about the transgression of families and family roles throughout a lifetime.  I also choose Assignment 5 - LGBT&Q Families because I find the family dynamics fascinating especially since I have friends who are in same sex marriages with children.
Last tell me what you think about wikis - or what you learned from the video.
This is my first experience with wikis and so far it is a great way to communicate considering the tech age we are in.  There is no turning back from here!   In the video I learned that what we edit we must save.

  1. Congrats on 25 years of marriage, a HUGE accomplishment. It is always great to have a few "older" and married students for a different point of view. If we were actually meeting in the classroom, you would notice that you might be the only student who gets my jokes! I am so glad to see that many students mentioned the class on LGBT & Q families. I feel we are really moving forward on greater understanding of gay people.
